Student Council Report

On Wednesday, December 6, the student council convened in the President's Dining Room; the first topic of discussion was a general review of the student council retreat, which was held this past August. Many of the ideas for possible student activities which were raised at the retreat included a carnival, a student versus faculty basketball game, and an astronomy night. All of these ideas were deemed feasible, although formal planning was limited to the creation of a committee which would be devoted completely to the organization of the carnival; students are encouraged to join this committee, as well as various other student council committees such as the facilities, special events, and Marriott committies.

The student body president also raised his concerns about communication between the student council and the student body. The President stated that one of the main goals of the student council for the remainder of the year should be to increase communication among the student body. Several ideas were presented, including an increase in the number of open-mic assemblies and the posting of meeting minutes. In addition, student council meetings will now be held in the Student Center in an effort to increase student attendance. The next sudent council meeting will be December 13 in the Student Center; the council exhorts all students to attend.
