Letter to the Editors

Sirs:

As a member of the recently established Indian Club, I feel compelled to respond to Mr. Earl's letter in the previous issue, and its accusations of discrimination within the club. The clubs at Menlo such as the Friends Club and the Skate Club are created as a forum where people with common interests can engage in activities together. The Indian Club was created for just such a purpose; it provides a chance for people to learn about and share their knowledge of Indian culture with others. Anyone interested is welcome to come, and I hereby extend an invitation for anyone to come to the next meeting.

Many of us feel that MAC overlooks our cultures, concentrating only on politically correct cultures such as those of Hispanics and African-Americans. If you feel as I do that the European culture is overlooked by such organizations as MAC, then I suggest you collect signatures and find a faculty advisor as the founders of the Indian Club did. Once they see a large amount of interest, I am positive that the administration will comply.

I have one final note about the previous article: by altering a quote and replacing "I" with "we", you are spreading your misconception that all members of the club share the same opinion, which is a form of stereotyping. I would suggest that in the future, you check your facts a little more thoroughly, something which I feel is absolutely vital to maintaining journalistic integrity.

Sincerely, Simran K. Singh
